Dear Parents and Students,
Good afternoon and Happy Thursday.
Students have had a big week this week with end of year assessments well underway. This is a great time of year as a teacher and for students because this is a time to shine and show what you know. Grade 6 has worked very hard this year and their learning curve has been steep. Preliminary results for the end of year show a strong upward trajectory and students have learnt a lot over the course of the year. I look forward to sharing results with you in the end of year reports which will be coming out very soon.
Home learning
Thank you for your continued support of students completing their home learning because this really does consolidate what they have been learning in school. Cumulatively, if a student completes an hour of homework a night, compared to those who don’t, they have completed (approximately) an additional 200 hours of study per year. The science shows that there is a correlation between engagement and achievement so this is very good practice indeed.
Homework for next week is to continue with reading, practicing solving mathematical problems from ‘real life’ Reading and Spelling. Please also remember to sign your child’s homework each week. Thank you.
Reading, Writing and Inquiry
This week students continued with their ‘How we Express ourselves.’ This is a unit where students will investigate the different forms of Art, expression through art, the making, interpretation and appreciation of artifacts. This week students were able to visit the secondary art space. This was in part to allow them to work in the space as part of transition to Grade 7, but also because they were able to use some of the secondary art equipment to create some special ‘ Spin art’. It was fun learning and students created some stunning art pieces as a result. Please do talk with them about this and please see photos of these art works as part of our class photo folder this week.
Mathematics
For math this week students have been working on completing end of year assessments for Basic facts, Number Knowledge and problem solving. I look forward to sharing these results with you as part of the Semester 2 reports coming out soon 🙂

We have a number of assessments coming up as we near the end of the year and collect information to triangulate data on progress throughout the year. Students should be preparing and revising for these, for their homework.
