Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to the end of week 23. A short but productive week as we readjust to our routines in school. This week has been a good opportunity for students to reconnect with each other and to enjoy the school campus before the weather gets too warm out.
Most of this week has been spent in debriefing the last 4 weeks of online learning and readjusting to being back on campus as well as completing any unfinished units of work from when we were in session online. Students have applied themselves and have made great progress in relation to this task and should be congratulated for this.
For photos of students hard at work learning this week please see our Grade 6 Picture page linked below.
Notices/ Worth Repeating
Please remember our Covid Mitigation measures for everyone’s health and safety.
As a reminder please see the points below:
- Do not send your child to school if they are exhibiting any symptoms of Covid. Keep them home until a doctor confirms that they can safely return to school.
- Please inform the school immediately once you are aware of any confirmed covid cases in your family, or of any close contacts with confirmed or suspected cases.
- Please follow the updated Covid Management protocols which our school will be following in the event of positive or close contact cases throughout our unvaccinated primary population.
- Primary grades will maintain grade level “bubbles”. This means they will eat and play within their own designated outdoor spaces.
- In order to maintain these bubbles, After School Activities will not resume until further notice. We will continue to monitor the situation carefully.
- Miss Margot will visit classrooms for Information Literacy classes rather than classes visiting the library. This is in order to preserve the Grade 4 bubble.
- Music and PE will continue as normal.
- Swimming during PE will begin the week of February 20th.
- In order to maintain bubbles, ASA’s are on hold until further notice.
Homework
This week for homework students have been asked to learn spelling words, to read hard copy books and to revise their basic facts. We have advanced in this area and now only have 4 spelling groups as students develop their skills. Well done everyone.
Reading, Writing and Inquiry
Central Idea:
Human actions impact climates.
Lines of Inquiry:
For this we will inquire into the following;
- Human and natural causes of climate change
- Effect of climate change on animals
- Effect of climate change on biomes
Mathematics
This week student mathematicians have completed math maintenance for daily basic facts practice and have begun to learn about shape and space linking with geometry. Next week we will integrate this unit into artwork showing developing understandings of the terms Tessellation, translation, reflection and rotation. For this we will use the artwork of Escher and Gonçalves as motivation. Watch this space for examples of student masterpieces.
PSPE
This week students have enjoyed being back on campus and working with their PSPE teachers ‘in the real’ rather than online. Students have also played a number of fun collaborative games in class which they have enjoyed.
