While we are all still thinking about the people affected by Cyclone Shaheen recently, Grade 4 has been thinking about donating LuLu Shukran cards to help people in need. But how much can a OMR 5 card buy you anyway? Would it be more useful to donate more than OMR 5? This is what Grade 4 did.
We went onto the LuLu shop online website to see how much food actually cost. Five riyal disappeared really quickly by the time we ‘bought’ meat, vegetables and fruit. There was no spare money for treats!
We also discovered that we could save lots of money by buying a whole watermelon rather than buying pre-cut fruit. LuLu sells 250g (a quarter of a kg) of cut watermelon for OMR 0.240. A whole watermelon costs OMR 0.260 per kg. It only took a small amount of maths to discover that 1kg of cut fruit costs OMR 0.960 . Quite a saving to buy the whole fruit!
