This week, we have started to unpack our central idea through discussing and practicing the process of “thinking”. We participated in different simple thinking routines in order to deepen our understanding. The children have begun to understand that, without noticing, they think and form a plan before they create or while creating. They have also begun to understand that the process of thinking and creating is an essential part of our daily lives. We go through this process while painting, building with a variety of materials, etc…
In Literacy, we read different books that star creative thinkers and talked about how they think, create and express themselves in different forms. This week, visual arts was our focus. We began to learn about how people use illustrations to express themselves. We will continue to focus on this and to emphasize the power of illustrations/photographs.
In Mathematics, we continued to focus on Number Sense playing different games and doing different activities. Our main focus is on counting forwards from 0 to 10 and backwards from 10 to 0, putting these numerals in order and identifying these numbers. This week the children were exposed to unifix cubes and have begun to learn about how to use them as a Mathematician. Please click here to see how we used unifix cubes.
