Dear KG2 Families,

It is difficult to believe that we have left three weeks behind us. Time flies when you are having fun. ? And we have lots of fun in Kindergarten.

Once again thank you for participating in Parent Information Evening. It was great to see our families without their masks and finally put faces to names. For your reference please click here to reach the presentation we used during the Parent Information evening session.

The children are settling in well and learning about our classroom routines and expectations. This week, we talked about classroom expectations and rules and have begun to create our “essential agreements”. We are in the process of outlining these expectations and rules so we could start working towards creating an environment where everyone would be able to learn and achieve at their best.

This week the children continued to explore various painting techniques and materials. They were introduced to how to use tempera cake paint, oil pastel resist painting and finger painting. They used these techniques to create their own art pieces and share their thinking. They painted rainbows, flowers, butterflies as well as vibrant colour exploration painting to share their feelings and emotions. We will continue to expose the children to various painting techniques in order for them to utilise these to express themselves and their feelings.

This week we have continued to use our learning environment as the third teacher and set up various invitations for children to inquire into various areas of our curriculum including numeracy and literacy. Though they have enjoyed engaging in these learning engagements, towards the middle of the week they confidently voiced their choice of the learning engagement and wanted to explore playdough. As a result of this request, we took playdough and playdough tools out and set up various invitations. It was great to see that the children talked to each other and commented about each other’s creations (communication skills), and shared and took turns (social skills) when playing. It was also evident that they have begun to learn how to use a variety of strategies to resolve conflicts. This is an area we will continue to focus on throughout this academic year.

This week we conducted our numeracy assessment in order to determine where children are at in order to plan to support their learning.

Please see below for some photos of our week.

Have a lovely weekend!
