This week we have spent a lot of time getting to know each other and the K1 environment. It was wonderful to meet some of our parents at the meetings on Tuesday, thank you for attending. The children have been great at working out how their classroom works, caring for their equipment and the environment in which they learn. We have started making our essential agreements about how we best learn.

Our first Unit of inquiry, “How we express ourselves” is in its second week and we have been exploring colours and their names. In language we have been reading ‘I Spy’ where they have to guess the animal by its colour. Brown Bear, Brown Bear is a favourite where the children can read along naming colours and animals. In Maths we have been sorting materials by colour and in Art they have had much fun exploring hand painting using different colour paints. Thursday was rainbow day so we read rainbow stories, sang songs and made rainbows. The children enjoyed their experiences and their learning.

Next week the students have decided they would like to explore colour under the sea. We will also be introducing feelings and naming them. What an amazing week we had and thank you for all your support dressing your children in the daily colours.
