Dear Parents and Students,

Another successful week of learning has come and gone. Students are beginning to really settle into routines and we are finding out more and more about each other as we work through our first unit of Inquiry around Who We Are.

A busy week, it was great to ‘See’ so many of you at our evening online parent information event. It was great to see so many interested, involved parents. I really enjoyed talking with you and sharing about our class and am sure that your students would also be only too happy to talk with you about their learning.

As a reminder or if you were unable to attend, for your convenience please see below links to two important documents giving an overview of the information provided during this event.

Grade 6 Parent Orientation 2021 2022

G6 Parent Information Evening

This week we have continued to work on our inquiry into who we are looking in more depth at our values and beliefs and how these influence choices we make.  One of the great things we did around this as a learning engagement was to ask the students to complete their likes and dislikes list and then work with a partner to create a venn diagram showing commonalities as well as individual differences. We then reflected on things that we value, why we value these and what that means for us. For example, if I value my health, then I chose to eat healthy and to exercise and I bring this attitude with me wherever I go. Hence this becomes part of whichever community I am a part of. Students reflected on this in relation to their purchases, their clothing, their food, their choice of friends and social contacts, the activities they participate in during their leisure time and so on. This drawing of connections and causal relationships again highlighting the concept of shared human commonalities as well as the ways in which our personal journeys and experiences reflect our communities.

Please see here some samples of students work from this week in class. Ask your children what they were doing and what they were learning about when creating these pieces.

With week four coming up next week, we only have 3 more weeks where this remains our main focus of inquiry so please watch this space for information about our next unit coming up soon.

Reminders:

Please remember your…

Hat, Water bottle, Ipad charged, PE Kit, Spare Mask…

About feeling unwell; If a student is at school and feels unwell, the school will check temperatures and their general state of being before calling home to ask that they be collected and either taken home to rest or to be checked by a health professional.

If a student is unwell, please let the school know and take the necessary time to recuperate and get well. There is no expectation that you attend classes via remote or that you complete school work at home if you are unwell.   If you are on the verge of coming back to school or are really bored however, then please remember that ‘Readers are leaders’ and that Mathematics is all around us 🙂 Some time spent on basic facts or reading each day may be appropriate.

Our health is number one priority so we need to look after ourselves to be sure.

Thank you.

As always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincere regards,

Your partner in learning.
