Over the past three weeks in diploma English, we have been examining advertisements and the techniques that are used to persuade an audience to buy a product.  We examined 20 common techniques and how they are used.  We, also, looked at the role of context and target audience on what and how ads are presented.

We culminated this study with an advertising project in which the students worked individually or in groups to analyze an advertising campaign.  They examined the ways that companies have used a series of ads to reach a specific demographic or how a campaign was used to reach different groups of people all while employing the same catch phrases and jingles.  The completed projects were then presented to their classmates and uploaded into their portfolios.  The demonstrated a strong understanding of the techniques and how they are being used within their chosen campaigns.
