As part of our unit work in Grade 4, the students have made windmills and water wheels… and now a solar water heater. The students filled two straws, one black and one pale coloured, with water and sat them outside in the sun for 5 minutes. Which water was going to be hotter? Can you guess?
In real life, black pipes are used to produce solar hot water and we discovered why.
This also gave us the chance to revise the scientific method when writing about what we did.
