Part of our literacy this week has been reading and analyzing poems. We are becoming good at recognizing the language features that are used by poets.

Learning to reading certain poems in rhythm can take some practice. We have been surprised that although some poems look short, they can be challenging to read well.

We have also been introduced to some new words in the poems we are studying too. We are always on the lookout for interesting words to include in our writing.

In our current unit of inquiry we are enjoying learning about money. We have found out about some of the security features of money and why people like to store their money in banks. We are also learning lots of new words on this subject. Students were interested to find out if they already have a bank account and whether or not it earns ‘interest’. Some students were curious about Bitcoin and found out some information to share with the class.

We had fun teaching the Great Wall game to Mr Mike’s class this week and then playing it with them. Yesterday Hashim in Grade 5 explained the rules of another game to us. This one is called ‘Paper, Scissors, Rock’ and because we already knew how to do the hand play part of this, we picked this new game up very quickly. Something great about this weeks new game was that our friends with injuries could safely join in too.

Both of these games not only exercise our body, but also our minds and reaction speed. Rawnaq wants to teach it to her cousins and our class will look forward to sharing it with Mr Mike’s class. We think they will enjoy it too.

We feel proud of the writing we published about an amazing woman in our lives and other people are enjoying reading these stories too. If you look closely, perhaps you might recognise some of these amazing women.
