Grade 7 started their new unit by looking at a collage portrait of Steve Jobs by artist Jason Mecier. They noticed that the entire artwork was made using circuit boards and other computer parts, and discussed how our choice of materials can help to communicate an idea to our audience. Finally, they learned that their end goal would be to create their own collage self-portraits using gathered materials that would tell us something important about who they are.
To prepare for this outcome, students have made value scales to get better at measuring lights and darks with their eyes. They are now practicing using a set of common measurements to accurately draw a human face.
