We have made it! Thank you one and all for all your time, effort, fun and laughter. I have loved being in the classroom with you all and getting to know you all in person (and the parents via email). I hope you all have a wonderful winter break with friends and family

Literacy

We were exploring how to improve our writing by incorporating questions and adjectives into our story leads.

Unit of Inquiry / Science

A busy week for our Unit of Inquiry. We investigated and explored the function of weather instruments and continued to keep track of the weather twice a day.  We also explored the effect of climate, seasons and weather on animals by looking at how animals are adapted to their particular climate. We primarily explored which animals were migratory and those which hibernated. The students shared a remarkable amount of geographical and animal prior knowledge while we sorted animals into each category.

Maths – Chance and Probability

We explored unfair game spinners and justified why we thought they were unfair.

We also collected class data showing the frequency of rolling certain numbers when two dice were added together. After making a frequency table, we found that there were six possible combinations to roll a seven and this was why seven was the most common number rolled by all the students. The students identified why two and 12 were the least common numbers rolled, as they found there was only one possible combination to make each of these numbers.

Final Farewell and ‘Hot Chocolate with Harriet’

To celebrate the end of the year we got rugged up in our winter clothes, put on the fire (on the TV), brought all the grade 2s together and drank some ‘Hot Coco with Harriet’. It was a lovely send off to the year so far and a great celebration of Harry and our weather unit. All the best Harry.
