Grade 12 French students have been busy working on their speaking skills in their current unit of study. We’re continuing to look at the IB Language B theme “Social Organization,” in particular, the connections between people.

To date, we’ve analyzed our relationships with those closest to us; our family members and friends, and are now considering our connections with those around us; classmates, neighbors, and community members. We have even considered our connections to people around the world with whom we share similar mindsets, but may not know “in real life.”

To further our study of social organization, students were tasked with analyzing a photo related to the theme and discussing it in individual practice speaking assessments. Our higher level French student was asked to analyze an extract from his novel “Le Petit Prince,” therefore his assessment was slightly different than that of standard level students. After presenting their thoughts on the photo or extract, students were asked to complete a self-evaluation of their presentation by marking it based on the IB rubric for the Language B internal assessment. They then compared their marks with those of Ms. Lougher and looked at ways in which they could improve.

*Note: Students completed the speaking assessment alone in a learning space, therefore you may notice that they are not wearing masks.
