This week, grade 11 students began exploring Cuban history in preparation for the case study on Fidel Castro for the paper 2 topic of Authoritarian States. We started by looking at Cuba in the 19the century and US involvement in aiding Cuba achieve independence from Spain. We saw that this independence came at a price. This lays the ground work for puppet governments in the 20th century which will culminate in the Batista regime that Castro fights against in the 1950s.
