Dear Parents,
The Student Led Conferences is on Tuesday, the 16th of April 2019.
What is a Student Led Conference (SLC)?
For those who are new to ABIS, an SLC enables students to take the lead in discussing their own learning and goals. Advisors/Teachers are present in the room but are not part of the discussion. If parents wish to meet with teachers, they are advised to make a separate appointment at a later date. Teachers may also request a separate meeting with parents. Stu- dent led conferences are conducted with more than one family in a space and with an allotted time of 20 minutes. Siblings are asked to stay in the library area of each building or for parents to make other arrangements.
Grades 10 and 12 students will be on a different schedule from the rest of the school. The DP and IGCSE coordinators will be speaking to Gr 10 and 12 parents from 6:00 – 7:00 pm to ensure that everyone is aware of the expectations regarding the upcoming exams. There will be a presentation (about 30 minutes) and a question and answer session (5-10 minutes). Afterward, students will present their study planners and a few areas where they need support.
Progress Reports are also due on Monday, the 15th of April: The progress report will ONLY be sent home to parents if the following criteria apply:
•Your child is new to the school (more than 9 weeks attendance)
•Your child has had some ongoing support structures in place and regular reports are re- quired
•Your child has shown a marked change – either positive or negative – in their academic progress.
Students not fitting these criteria will not have a report during mid semester as the Student Led Conferences are in-depth and extensive.
