It was a wonderful assembly hosted by the secondary students under the guidance of Mr. Todd Davis and Mr. Gary Goodwin. The students highlighted the great diversity that exists at ABIS, and shared how the ABIS curriculum as well as extra-curricular activities are addressing the 17 sustainable development goals of the United Nations.

Ms. Ella van den Heuvel, a parent, shared how she addresses SDG #5 (gender equality) when she is working as a UN peacekeeper. The Model United Nations group shared how they try to resolve conflict through effective dialogue and communication.

It was a good opportunity for the entire ABIS community to see how the secondary tackles local issues with global significance in many different ways. It was equally remarkable how great efforts were taken to make the presentation appealing and understandable to a younger audience through animated drawings and involving the children by asking them questions about familiar situations. For us, teachers, we feel a sense of pride when our students take center stage, and wow us when they take the lead role and take ownership of an entire assembly. The UN is indeed all about giving voice, choice and ownership to its member nations.
