This week grade 5 has been celebrating Dot Day. For our STEAM session, grades 4 and 5 learnt about pointillism, an artistic movement, which was started by the French artist Georges-Pierre Seurat in 1886. We studied his painting “A Sunday afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte” by using magnifying glasses to observe the different coloured dots he used.

Following this, the students had the opportunity to make different shades of colours by drawing dots with markers. Next week we are hoping to give the children the opportunity to use the method to draw a picture.
