The G9 Global Perspectives students have been working for the last few weeks to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges we face when attempting to make environmental systems more sustainable. To do this, we’ve looked at the root causes of unsustainability, and we’ve explored the concept of Ecological Footprint. This is helping us discover what changes are needed to lessen our impact today for future generations.
This focus made it ideal timing for Mr. Spratley, who is is the Environmental Manager of Strategic and Precious Metal Processing LLC here in Sohar so come visit us for a class period. Mr. Spratley has the goal of Zero Environmental Impact for his company. With this in mind, he was able to share some of his wide ranging background in environmental protection. This showed his passion for “leaving the environment the same or better” than it was when he started with it.
Mr. Spratley who is an ABIS parent and was formerly a high school science teacher loves working with students and local communities on ways to reduce environmental impact. He is interested in working with ABIS to develop our recycling program, and is involved in building a facility for recycling plastics, glass, and metal in Muscat. Clearly Mr. Spratley will be a great resource as we develop a 21st Century school that is dedicated to Eco-friendly best practices.
We love having ABIS parents get involved. So if you have interest in making some “real-world” connections to the curriculum come to life, please reach out and let us know. This could be a great experience for our students, and for you!
