Grade 10 revised the causes of the First World War this week through a linking activity. Their task was to create paper ‘links’ that detailed the causes and effects of the war–people, places, events–and then connect those links to show the complex interrelationship between all the factors.

This task was as much about process as the product, and I was very happy with the conversation I overheard during the work. The students were really grappling with how the many factors connect and the student pairings produced shapes that, correctly, more closely resembled webs rather than straight line chains. In the featured image you can see David and Connor, making the final touches on their very thoughtful web.
