This week the students in grades TWO THREE and FOUR reflected on their performances through writing and drawing. Grades three and four uploaded onto their websites their thoughts along with the film of rehearsals and performance. Grade two wrote about their thoughts which are on display in the dance room.  The students will be performing again in the spring semester of 2016. After reflecting, our little dancers had a bit of fun with the school’s repertoire of dances. Grade three’s reflection also serves as a pre-assessment for their upcoming unit of inquiry How We Express Ourselves.

Coming up after the November break are performances by K3 and grade 1 along with grades 5 and 6.  Scheduled for the 26th of November, the grades five and six may be appearing in the same assembly as our youngest dancers on December 3rd if the 26th is declared.

For clothing, our K3s and 1s are asked to wear a single colour from top to bottom.  This can be ANY colour, but only one colour. For example you can dress your child in all red OR all green but not both.  Please, no prints, designs, patterns, words or logos. Students can wear dresses, trousers, skirts, tees – basically anything, as long as they are in one colour.

The fives are performing as fire and then as earth, so they are asked to wear any variations of YELLOW or ORANGE which they can supplement with a sash, ribbon, leg warmers, sweat band or belt of RED for fire and BROWN for earth.  Grade six are performing as wind and then as water. They are asked to wear WHITE with an accessory of BLUE for water.  Note – no logos, designs, words, or patterns for either class.

The K3s and 1s have been exploring some basic building blocks of movement, with the grade ones also focusing on floor pathways.  The older children have been looking at how movement can represent something specific, such as wind and water.  The movements were discussed as they were learned so that the students determined how a movement may represent water, or earth (for example). This performance should show their respective understandings.

Enclosed is a short clip of grade four during their “fun day”. http://youtu.be/r2JpCpy-0fI

We actually managed a photo as well this week as we were not filming our rehearsals.
