Some grade 5 and 6 students have been taking part in Odyssey of the Mind, an after school activity that challenges them with creative problem solving. Some of these challenges are verbal. For example, I asked them to use “catch” as many ways as possible in two minutes and students responded with the likes of “catch a cold” and “ketchup”.
Other challenges are physical, such as the picture you see of Jackson and Jade. Given a can of baked beans and a ruler to act as a fulcrum and lever, the students were told to balance as many of the given objects as possible. (They’re celebrating because they successfully balanced them all.)
Well done!
