The first week back after the summer break is always a shock to students as they readjust their sleeping rhythms from getting up whenever they want to being at school by 8. Nevertheless we have been pleasantly surprised at how well students have adjusted to being back at school with most seeming to be genuinely enthusiastic. Personally, I haven’t decided if this is because they missed their friends or missed the learning process. I’ll let you decide.
Much of the emphasis this week has been on helping students settle back in and get themselves organised. We challenged students to check their timetable and prepare their bag first thing in the morning, file materials into folders, check their email daily, update their calendars with deadlines, meetings and events, set targets for the year, and other important aspects of good organisation. I have attached a photo of a check list that we shared and hope that you can continue to support this life skill from home.
The IB Diploma has now begun at the school with just a small selection of students. The G11’s have settled in very well so far and gone about their learning with a mature attitude. The IGCSE results over the summer were very encouraging with the highest pass rate percentage (A-C) so far, with the highest percentage of students getting an A or A*. Although our numbers are currently too small for statistical analysis to be meaningful, this is at least a promising indicator and good foundation for our Diploma students to build upon.
Have a wonderful weekend in these unusually pleasant temperatures!
