Grade 7 and 8 students have finished yet another unit in Music. It was dedicated to the music style of the Plena of Puerto Rico. The Plena is a highly rhythmic song which is thought to have originated in the Southern coastal city of Ponce. It has a strong Afro-Caribbean flavor and is rooted in the everyday life of the working class. Anyone who can keep a beat is welcome to join in and participate. The Plena of Puerto Rico is a musical expression of real life events such as greeting a friend by saying Hola Amigo.
Group performance was a challenging yet an exciting task, as all participants had to sing and accompany themselves at the same time.
Here are some pictures from the final performance.
