Good mental arithmetic is essential for students and parents can help to develop these skills in lots of ways. Those car journeys to and from school (or to and from Sohar!) can be used to learn multiplication tables, if while you are driving you and your children take it in turns to recite values from the tables. Doing this just two or three times a week reinforces number bonds and will improve the memory recall of important multiplication facts.
