We have been learning about all sorts of punctuation. The best place to find out about it is to look in books to see how writers use it. Turns out, there is a lot in a book! We figured out together what kinds of punctuation are used the most, we included capital letters because they’re so important!

We looked in books for sentences that use a certain type of punctuation, then we copied them on the charts.Sometimes one sentence used many different kinds of punctuation so we could copy it again and again on the different charts!

Then, we had meetings to talk about why the punctuation was there in each sentence. We shared our conclusions with Ms. Fitch and she wrote them down. She thinks we did a great job on commas. Finding out punctuation rules for ourselves and putting them into our own words really helps us to remember them!

When we are reading, it’s a good idea to think and talk about the punctuation we see. This will help us remember to use it when we write!
