To start off Oman Week, we reminded ourselves of our Who We Are unit of inquiry. Today was a great chance to look at the lines of inquiry exploring the cultures of others and exploring our cultures’s values and beliefs. These lines of inquiry apply to us whether we are Omani or not! We kept them in mind as we explored more about Omani culture.

Afterwards, we reflected on what we had learned and shared some questions we had. We thought we could ask an Omani adult for the answers to these questions.

Amelie: I learned that Omani bread tastes like pancakes!

Hassan: I realized that they use palm leaves to make things like hats and fans. The Omani coffee is
really hot! You drink it with dates.

Aya: That’s because there is no sugar in Omani coffee…the dates make it sweet.

Stijn: They made things out of palms to put your food on. It can also cover your food from flies.

Ahmed: They paint the leaves with colours.

Amelie: How do they make chairs from palm leaves?

Aya: How do they make the things that cover food?

Jai: Why do they cook with their hands?

Nibras: How do they make the fans? Is Sinbad the Sailor a real person?

Hassan: Where was Sinbad born?

It was a great way to start Oman Week! Thank you Ms. Ruquiya for organizing it for us!
