Integrating mathematics throughout our Unit of Inquiry on energy has been so much fun! Energy is a topic that is so easily quantified so it really lends itself to all sorts of mathematical activities. This week Grade 4 played the Energy Math Challenge where students were placed in groups to race and complete a series of mathematical questions. These questions tested their understanding of data and statistics as related to energy. They had to apply their knowledge and skills of reading different kinds of graphs and make conclusions from them.
Team “Biomass” ended up being victorious after four rounds, although the point totals were all very close. I was really proud of how the groups came together to solve the problems and communicated to each other in the group.
