The K3s and Grade Ones did their first performance of the year – the K3s their first performance at ABIS ever!

The children were looking at the principles of movement dating back to the earliest of the pioneer dancers and choreographers of the contemporary dance genre.  While initially a rebellion against the strict rules and conventions of ballet, the contemporary form has its own particular philosophies about body and movement.  The students were able to investigate how their bodies moved in different ways with different levels of force and along different pathways.

At the same time, the students have been working on spatial awareness and what their body can do in space, both when individually moving and when dancing with a group.

The students had a mini performance yesterday, just for their families (and grade three, whose dance class was during the time of the performance) to show what they had been learning.

The film was taken on Mrs. Burton’s ipad so please go to her blog to see what they have done!
