Grade 4 has been busy this week collecting data on our school wide energy use. The Global Action Week activities lead by the Eco Club has started our thinking on how we can improve energy efficiency across the school. while the students had a lot of raw ideas, it became apparent that we couldn’t really make meaningful recommendations until we knew for sure where and how we use energy currently.
The class decided that we needed to investigate how energy is used within the school by conducting a school wide audit. They went around the school and collected data related to lighting, cooling and appliance use. They recorded their findings using an observational questionnaire. Next, we plan to compile our data and represent it visually in order to analyze and make recommendations.
These recommendations will then be used to implement student based solutions to improve energy efficiency.
