Learning About Healthy Habits

It has been another busy week of learning in KG2 as we have continued exploring healthy habits and how the choices we make help keep our bodies and brains healthy.

This week, we were very excited to welcome Nurse Amina to our classroom. She talked to the children about the five healthy habits we need to help look after our bodies and brains. To help reinforce her message, Nurse Amina gave each child a bottle of water and a toothbrush, reminding us about the importance of drinking water and taking care of our teeth. 💧🪥

We also explored what it means for our healthy habits to be balanced. We used the balance scale that we had previously used when learning about heavy and light. This helped the children make a connection between the idea of physical balance and keeping our healthy choices balanced too.

We discussed how we cannot rely on just one healthy habit. Our bodies and brains need a balance of different things — healthy food, water, exercise, rest, hygiene and time to learn and play.

This gave us an opportunity to connect our learning to the Learner Profile attribute of Balanced. The children are beginning to understand that being healthy means thinking about all the different things our bodies and brains need.

It has been wonderful to see the children making connections between our learning and their own everyday lives!
