On October 17, 2026 Grade 2 will have their first primary school assembly. The students will be having a cultural fashion show. We still have two weeks to prepare. Next week students from each country will write one sentence about their culture. We will put the students in groups of their perspective region. What we ask from you is that you decide what your child will wear for the assembly. Will they wear traditional clothing? Will they wear a special hat from their country? Will they wear a football uniform from a team that represents their country? Or will they carry a flag to represent their country? This is something you must discuss with your child.

This week we completed our end of unit reflection for the Unit of Inquiry, ‘Who We Are’. This unit is an ongoing yearly unit and we will come back to this unit before winter break, during Oman Week and the last two weeks of school. The students completed a pre-assessment on the new Unit of Inquiry, ‘How We Organize Ourselves.’ I have attached the newsletter below and I will share it with you on SeeSaw.

For English this week we began our second whole class recount writing assignment. The students have chosen to write about the games they play in PE. The three ideas are dodgeball, tag and Red Light Green Light. We have completed the introduction paragraph and the paragraph about dodgeball. We will continue next week. For phonics this week the students were finally introduced to vowel teams. A vowel team is when two vowels are together in a word. They make one sound. The first vowel is usually the one who controls the sound. The vowel teams we have learned so far are ea, ee, ey, ai, ay, oi and oy. Please practice these sounds with your children at home. This week we read the fable, The Little Red Hen. The students completed a graphic organizer about the beginning, middle and end of the story. They also completed an activity about the steps the Red Hen made during the story. Today they have begun a comic strip about the book. Once these are completed I will display them outside of the classroom. When we finish the activity we will then move on to another fable, Martina the Cockroach. Fables always carry a message. Share fables from your country with your children at home.

In math this week we began looking at 2D shapes. Students will learn about sides, corner, straight or curved attributes of 2D shapes. The shapes we will focus on are the circle, square, triangle, rectangle, pentagon and hexagon. We will also continue reviewing place value. Next week the students will be introduced to number bonds from 1-20.
