What a fantastic and productive week we’ve had! Here is a look at what our students accomplished in the classroom and how you can continue supporting their learning at home.

🔤 Phonics Highlights
This week, our core focus was on sharpening our skills with the /m/ and /d/ letter sounds!

What We Did: Students spent time reading, writing, and blending these specific sounds together to form simple words.

Home Connection: Practice tapping out and blending sounds at home using everyday words (e.g., tap /m/ – /a/ – /t/ to say mat, or /d/ – /o/ – /g/ to say dog).

🔢 Math In Action
It was an active week in Math, packed with foundational skill assessments and hands-on concept building!

What We Did: Students demonstrated their understanding through assessments and engaged with several key concepts:

Distinguishing between even and odd numbers

Tracking and organizing data with tally marks and graphs

Comparing values using greater than, less than, and equal to

Building number fluency by skip counting by 2s

Home Connection: Try skip counting by 2s together on the drive home, or grab a pile of small items (like buttons or coins) and ask your child if the total is even or odd!

🤝 Unit of Inquiry (UOI): Social & Emotional Learning
What We Did: Our big idea centered on how our personal choices impact others and our shared environment. Through discussions and role-play, students practiced keeping spaces tidy, asking adults for help safely, and using calm-down strategies to regulate emotions.

Home Connection: Ask your child to share who their trusted adults are when they need help, or practice taking slow, deep breaths together when feelings get overwhelming!

📌 Essential Reminders & Notices
Phonics Fashion Show (15th October): Check your child’s reading folder for their assigned letter template! Decorate the template to wear with an outfit starting with that letter. On assembly morning, send labeled costumes or join us at 11:30 AM in the classroom to help them dress.

Guided Group Reading: We are currently in Week 7 of Guided Group Reading! Please check the Google spreadsheet for your child’s assigned book and review the attached guide to support them at home.

Swimming (Mondays, 11:40–12:20): Send students in regular clothes with a separate labeled swim bag (swimsuit, towel, cap, goggles, flip-flops, and wet bag).

Library (Tuesdays, 9:20–10:00): Send a large bag so books can travel safely to and from home.

Daily Supplies: Ensure your child has a labeled reusable water bottle and headphones (standard jack plug).

Snacks & Meals: Pack healthy snacks and lunch separately. Please remind children that unhealthy items (hot chips, chocolate) are not permitted.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership and enthusiasm!
