Dear Parents,
This week in Grade 1, we continued exploring our Who We Are unit. The children are discovering who they are and what makes each of us unique. Earlier, we got to know each other better by answering questions about ourselves and recording the results using tally marks and bar graphs.
This week, the children compared themselves with a classmate and talked about how they are similar and different. They recorded their ideas in a Venn Diagram. This helped them see that although we are all unique, we also have many things in common. It has been lovely to see the children sharing their ideas and learning more about one another.
In Maths, we have been developing our number understanding through fun and practical activities. The children played a memory game, matching numbers with the correct quantity of dots, for example, matching the number 5 with five dots. We are also practising counting to 40 and counting backwards from 20 to 0.
In Reading, the children are practising on the iPad using RAZ Kids. They can listen to the books first, which helps them understand new words and sentences before reading independently. Regular reading at home is encouraged. Login details can be found in the reading folder. If you have any questions about using the app, please feel free to contact me.
It has been a busy and enjoyable week in Grade 1. I am very proud of the children’s enthusiasm, participation and growing confidence.
Warm regards,
Ms. Guinee
