Dear Parents,

Grade 1 has had another busy and joyful week of learning!

The children have enjoyed their swimming lessons and are becoming more confident in the water. Please remember to send swimming gear every Monday so everyone can take part.

In Phonics, the children are learning new letter sounds and beginning to blend sounds to read simple CVC words. They also practise their handwriting every day.

In Maths, we practised matching numbers to quantities and skip counting in 2s through fun activities and games.

In our Unit of Inquiry, Who We Are, the children explored our first line of inquiry, Who I am. They thought about what makes each of us special, created self-portraits and completed the sentence, “I am special because…”

The children also shared kind words about their classmates and talked about what makes their friends special. They added these words around their classmates’ portraits on a star. It has been lovely to see the children recognising and celebrating the qualities that make each person unique.

We are very proud of the children and their growing confidence as they learn, share and get to know one another.

Warm regards,
Ms. Guinee
