This week, making connections was at the heart of learning in both Grade 7 and Grade 8. Students used thought-provoking questions to connect their French units with their own experiences and relationships.

Should we change the way we present ourselves for different audiences? Do we use the same language and tone with everyone? These questions helped students think more deeply about identity, communication and the choices we make when sharing our stories.

Are free-time activities more meaningful when we do them alone or with others? Their reflections opened a conversation about how sharing our time and interests can help us build connections with other people.

These discussions remind us that learning a language also means thinking about how we communicate and connect. When do you feel most connected to others—and how does the way you communicate help create that connection?

Assessment reminder: Both grades will complete their Criterion B reading assessment next Wednesday, 23 September. Students can prepare by revisiting the French slides where they have all the grammar and vocabulary we have studied and practising how to identify information, recognize text conventions and explain connections.
