Every language we speak carries a part of who we are—our families, cultures, experiences and unique ways of seeing the world. When students bring their languages into the classroom, they share far more than words: they open windows into new perspectives and enrich our learning community.

This week, Grade 7 continued exploring MYP Criterion B, with a particular focus on recognising and understanding the conventions of personal blogs. Students examined how features such as titles, introductions, images, dates, first-person language and personal details help writers communicate their messages and achieve the purpose of their texts.

We also reviewed vocabulary related to countries, nationalities and languages. Several students impressed me by sharing the different languages spoken in their home countries. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect their French learning with their identities and to celebrate the rich linguistic diversity present in our classroom.

Grade 8 students demonstrated a strong understanding of how an infographic communicates information by combining written and visual elements. They analysed infographics with growing confidence, identifying key information and explaining how images, icons, headings, colours and statistics work together to communicate a message clearly and effectively.
