Dear parents,
It has been an exciting first week in Grade 7 and Grade 8 French Language Acquisition!
In Grade 7, students began by exploring the key concepts, learning systems and expectations of the MYP. As they start their MYP journey, they are learning how inquiry, collaboration, ATL skills, the Learner Profile and reflection will support their progress as language learners.
In Grade 8, students reviewed these MYP concepts and systems. They then put their communication and collaboration skills into action by beginning a short presentation for the new students who will soon join our class. Through this activity, they are becoming confident communicators and helping to create a welcoming and supportive learning community.
Both grades also worked to create our class Essential Agreements. Students discussed the attitudes, behaviors and responsibilities that will help everyone feel safe, respected and ready to learn. By contributing their own ideas, they took shared responsibility for creating a positive and inclusive French classroom.
Coming Next:
Grade 7 will begin the unit “Mon identité, mon message”. Students will explore how purposeful messages communicate who we are and how our physical characteristics, personalities, interests, emotions and relationships shape our identity. They will learn to introduce and describe themselves and others, express their preferences and give simple reasons using vocabulary and structures. They will also consider how a message changes depending on its audience and purpose.
Grade 8 will begin with the unit “C’est tout ce que j’aime !”. Students will explore how their hobbies, interests and personal preferences contribute to their identity and sense of belonging. They will develop their ability to express and explain what they enjoy using structures and connectors in French. Throughout the unit, they will interpret infographics and other authentic texts, participate in interviews and vox-pop activities, and create short spoken and written messages about the things they love.
We are looking forward to a year filled with curiosity, communication, creativity and plenty of French.
