Weekly Photos Here

Student Led Conferences were a success!!! I can confidently say that the students truly enjoyed sharing their classroom and work with their parents. Students shared their completed research projects about their chosen animal. They shared a written piece about their animal, a specific food chain they belonged to and their completed diorama. Students also were able to share pieces of work with their parents that focused on English and Maths.

Sharing the Planet has come to an end. Almost all students completed their presentations. Sunday the remaining few will have the opportunity to complete theirs. We are recording those presentations and they will be shared on the weekly pictures. Please look at them and watch them with your child. Next week we will begin the unit ‘How the World Works.’ We will be focusing on light and sound. The central idea is, light and sound help people experience the world. I believe that the students and myself will be enjoying this upcoming UOI.

In English we completed writing our informational essays about the students’ chosen animals. It was a task worth completing. I am very proud of their hard work. Our next writing assignment will focus on procedural writing. Students will create a light or sound device and explain how they made it step-by-step. We will use the transition words first, second, third, fourth, and so on depending on how many steps the device has. For phonics next week students will be introduced to new suffixes. These suffixes include -ful, -less, -able, -ment, -nesh, -ish, and -en. For grammar we are still working on sentences, the naming part (subject) and the telling part (predicate). We will continue working on this next week.

For math we have been working on fractions and will continue to do so next week. Our focus is on whole, halves, thirds, and quarters. Please speak with your child about these concepts. Relating them to real world problems will help them understand.

Reminder to all parents and students, complete the 20 minutes of reading during the week. Turn in Reading Journals on Thursday.
