This week the students have organised their books and folders to share with parents during our Student-led Conferences. The students are also sharing their Glows & Grows: what they feel they are successful in at school and where they think they can make improvements. The students have been very excited and proud to share their learning and show how they have grown in Grade 2. Yesterday and this afternoon it was really lovely to watch how children and parents explored our learning space, listened to each other and celebrated learning.

Please return your child’s Glows & Grows sheet as soon as possible. Thank you.

This week has mainly been focused on our summative assessment – creating and building our habitat trioramas, then using a self-assessment rubric to check if they completed the expected criteria. They also completed their research reports before working on their UOI reflection where they needed to name something they learned in this unit, a fact about their animal, complete a food chain, explain how they used their communication skills and what action they took to show responsibility for all living organisms.

In maths this week, we did some mental maths with fractions, found halves, quarters and thirds of amounts and shapes. The students also explored fractions through a variety of games.

For literacy this week, the students had an opportunity to read in our farm next to the waterfall which is always a relaxing and enjoyable time. Reading can take place anywhere! Students also labeled their trioramas with facts about their animal and its habitat. We practised making words using letter patterns and forming our letters correctly.
