In literacy this week we have continued working on our research reports, met in our guided reading groups to discuss our non-fiction books, listed to books read aloud and read independently. We have worked on letter patterns and applied our learning in our own writing. Currently, we are working on adding adjectives to our writing to add more descriptive detail. When we write we also think about our handwriting and try to form our letters and numbers correctly.

During our maths session this week, we have reviewed AM and PM for time and began our fraction unit. We are working on identifying whole, 1/2 and 1/4, modeling simple fractions and finding fractions of shapes or amounts.

How can I support my child at home?

For our UOI this week, we have learned about animal’s adaptations and how they protect an animal in its habitat. We have talked about our responsibility to all living organisms and what actions we might take to care for our environment. Students worked in pairs to brainstorm to what they understand about taking care of our environment, then we created an information chart to display our thinking. From this we will develop an action plan we can share with our families. We also worked on our trioramas to show our understanding of animals in their habitats. Co-create a rubric to assess the habitat trioramas.

Please ensure your child brings a hat to school as students continue to have the opportunity to play outside. Your child must sit in the shade during playtime if they do not have a hat to wear and we would all rather they were enjoying this time with their friends.
