This week in literacy we have been focusing on researching our animal for Sharing the planet. Using the fact we have found, we will turn these into a research report. The students have used a variety of books and online sources to locate the information they need about their animal and its habitat. We have met in our guided reading groups to focus on non-fiction features and learn how to scan texts for information. The students have practiced using their phonic and spelling knowledge to write familiar and unfamiliar words.

In maths this week we have worked on our knowledge of time: telling time past and to using 5 minutes, understanding AM and PM and looking at real life problems with time. Today the students who were in school took the time post-assessment and have shown growth in their learning. Absent students will take the assessment after the holiday, so please have them practise using time and apply it to the activities in which they are involved.

For our UOI, we have continued with our animal research and with our understanding of interdependence within a habitat. The students looked at food chains, then created their own food chains and are building their knowledge of producers (plants) and consumers (living things that feed on other living things). Those students who attended school yesterday made their triorama base to be used in building their habitat.

After the holiday, we will continue with Sharing the planet unit, begin a new unit in maths: fractions and continue with our reading and writing programme.

Wishing you a safe and enjoyable holiday!
