Students have been working hard and show progress weekly which is marvellous!

We continue to work on understanding the number system and build the numbers regularly with tens and ones blocks, explain how many tens or ones we have and then say the number. We transfer this understanding to paper and draw/ write our number. These steps need to be repeated again and again as we formulate concepts and understanding of number. We have been practising counting in tens and this is something that could be continued at home to help reinforce the skill.

We also work daily on phonic and word activities as a class, individually or in groups and children are becoming better at working together, helping each other and taking photos to post independently to Seesaw. One reading group are working independently and taking it in turns to be group leader as they read their book together. They check their sight words and do paper exercises to strengthen phonic, blending, reading and writing skills. Great progress! Other groups work with me and will soon be ready to work by themselves too.

Lastly, we explored a very strange shape… it was actually the net for a cube. We looked and said what we could see..” lines, dots, squares, a rectangle, kind of a hexagon..” Gradually we gained an understanding of this weird shape as we counted 6 squares, folded along dotted lines, wondered if it was a box and then someone shouted out, “It’s a cube!” In this way we all discover 3D shapes but share our knowledge and build up our vocbulary and understanding together.

Happy Weekend to all
