Dear Secondary Families,
It was wonderful to see so many of our families in attendance at our International Evening last Thursday. This event is always a highlight of the school year and a powerful reminder of the rich diversity within our ABIS community. Evenings like this reflect what makes our school so special — a place where different cultures, languages, traditions, and backgrounds are celebrated, respected, and shared.
A sincere thank you to all of our parents who worked so hard to prepare tables, share traditional items, and provide food of such an outstanding standard. The pride shown by families in representing their countries was truly inspiring, and seeing students and parents come together through music, dance, and cultural performances was a particular highlight. Events like this are more than a celebration — they strengthen belonging, build community connections, and help students develop the international-mindedness that sits at the heart of an IB education.
Thank you also to our teachers, custodial team, and students who supported the event behind the scenes and helped ensure the evening ran so smoothly.
This week, our Grade 6 students have been busy showcasing their learning through the PYP Exhibition. It was wonderful to see our Secondary students visiting the exhibition and engaging in meaningful conversations with the younger students, asking thoughtful questions and showing genuine interest in their work. These moments are always special, as they highlight the strength of our continuum school and the positive relationships that exist across year groups.
Later this year, our Grade 10 students will also have the opportunity to showcase their own learning through the Personal Project Exhibition, which will be an important milestone in their MYP journey.
As we look ahead, we are now beginning preparations for our Grade 6 transition programme, supporting students as they prepare to move into the MYP next academic year. This will begin next week with our MYP Information Evening for Grade 6 parents, where we will share key information about what families and students can expect as they enter the next stage of their learning journey.
Looking Ahead – Ramadan
Next week we will begin the Holy Month of Ramadan. During this time, school hours will be adjusted, with students finishing at 1:00pm each day, and we will operate a revised timetable.
Information about our Ramadan ASA programme will be shared next week. ASAs will run from 1:00pm – 2:00pm on the usual ASA days (Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday). If the first day of Ramadan falls on a Wednesday, there will be no ASAs on that day, and the first day of the Ramadan ASA programme will begin on Sunday 22nd.
In the Secondary School, we will be offering DP support classes and some activities for MYP students during this period.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support and partnership.
Warm regards,
Andrew Cooper
Secondary Team Leader
