Dear Robloxian parents,

This week celebrating Omani culture, has been such a rich and exciting experience for the students. They have shown curiosity, respect, and genuine interest as they explored Oman through real-life experiences, discussions, and hands-on learning 🌿

One of the highlights of the week was our visit to Sohar Fort. The students learned about the history of the fort, how old it is, and why it is so special, particularly because it is built using bricks. They were fascinated to hear about the tunnel used long ago to bring in food and water. With archaeologists currently working at the site, the students were also able to learn about the ancient city of Sohar and observe the ongoing excavation. Seeing artefacts such as fish bones and beads helped them understand how people lived in the past. The students asked thoughtful questions and were truly amazed by what they saw. To extend this learning even further, archaeologists later visited our school to talk about their discoveries and what life is like working on an active dig site.

We also enjoyed visiting the old souq on the Corniche, where students observed how a traditional market is organised and explored the different items being sold. Many students were very proud to independently choose and purchase small gifts for family members or treats for themselves. Throughout the week, students also took part in Qaranqashoh with the Arabic teachers, observed traditional crafts created by local artisans, and learned how these crafts were used in everyday Omani life. A particularly memorable moment for many was seeing the camels up close !

In Literacy, students reflected on their visit to Sohar Fort through writing, focusing on sharing their thoughts and experiences clearly. We worked on sight words and participated in guided and independent reading sessions. Students also completed a vocabulary task connected to our Unit of Inquiry, where they selected a word, used a dictionary to find its meaning, explained it in their own words, and illustrated it. This task encouraged independence, careful thinking, and creativity.

In Maths, students continued developing fluency with adding and subtracting 10s and 100s, working towards being able to complete these calculations mentally. We did a short pre-assesment on ascending and descending numbers. We also began learning about arrays, which helped students see how numbers can be organised in equal groups, and explored halves by sharing shapes and quantities equally. We have not yet introduced doubles, as we are building these concepts step by step to ensure strong understanding.

Our Unit of Inquiry: How We Express Ourselves has been a strong focus throughout the week. We talked about how people express imagination in different ways and why every idea and piece of creativity matters. Students are currently in the planning stage of the creative process, working in teams to decide how they would like to express themselves through performance. It has been wonderful to see their collaboration, problem-solving, and imaginative thinking in action.

To further spark creativity, we read ‘Not a Stick’, which inspired students to transform a simple stick into something entirely new. Each child created a unique drawing and wrote a short story to match their idea. The results were imaginative, thoughtful, and a joy to read.

Please enjoy the photos shared here; they truly capture the learning and excitement of the week.
