Dear Parents,

Grade 7s built their own family trees this week, leading to some thoughtful discussions about the fact that families can look very different from one another. This has helped students develop a deeper sense of inclusion and understanding. Next week, we’ll move on to the values families bring, and how family and cultural conventions help shape who we are and our identity.

Grade 8s analysed their very first Airbnb listing and discovered the vocabulary linked to amenities and equipment. Next week, we’ll take a closer look at the conventions of writing such a listing, simply to understand what makes people want to rent one. In two weeks’ time, they’ll be ready for their first Criterion B reading assessment of the semester.

Grade 9s completed their Criterion B reading on the Montessori system. This allowed them to compare the IB with another educational approach, while also evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of their own learning, this will help them focus better on their next step. Next week, we wish them a wonderful Oman Week trip.

Grade 10s worked with the passé composé and vocabulary linked to feelings and emotions, using poetry to describe what a migrant might be experiencing. The result will definitely be sensitive and thoughtful.

Grade 11–12s have just completed their unit on the environment and are now moving on to Human Ingenuity. Listening skills are our current focus, alongside discussions around communication and media.

A rich week of learning across all year groups, with plenty of reflection and new perspectives.

Warm wishes,
Miss J
