Welcome back students and parents! I hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing break. This week we had school photos taken of the students and I can’t wait to see how they came out.
This week the new Unit of Inquiry, How We Express Ourselves has begun. The Central Idea of this UOI is, ‘Through creativity and imagination we can express ourselves to others’. We will embark on a journey of drama and art. This week we looked at the vocabulary this unit entails. Please look at the UOI flyer that was shared in Seesaw, so you too can be involved in the learning process. Throughout this UOI we will act our emotions, participate in acting out stories, and draw representations of emotions.
For English we will continue working on our spelling, grammar, and phonics. In grammar our focus for the next couple of weeks will be verbs. A verb is an action word. Ask your children if they can give you examples of verbs. For phonics we will continue learning about vowel teams and review our past sounds. For writing we will focus on recount. We will first write an essay about a day at school. We will use the words first, next, then, and finally.
In math we will be working on addition and subtraction. We will begin with numbers one through twenty and then continue up into the hundreds place. Practicing at home will benefit the students so much and I encourage this support. We will also continue reviewing the ways a number is represented. These ways include standard numbers, writing numbers as words, expanded notation, and visual representations of numbers.
Reading Journals are still expected to be completed every week and turned in on Thursdays. The book bags contain their library books and two books supplied by myself. Every Sunday students will change both the library books and the two books supplied by me. Please use these books for their Reading Journals. Raz Kids is also another alternative to be used for the Reading Journals.
