This week we were reviewing what we have learnt and have been checking our phonic and number knowledge as well as continuing to learn more about the Earth.

In preparation for our trip to the Wadi next week, we have started to consider what changes happen to the Earth and how it happens. One of our students told us that ‘water’ changes the Earth so we have started to observe and inquire into how the water changes the Earth’s surface- more next week!

Students had a busy week of singing and practicing for the Winter Concert. They need a wide skill set for this performance as they are standing in front of a large audience and singing songs in English, with actions and using percussion instruments. Going on and off stage, keeping in order and finding our place also needs repeated practice and they have been doing well at helping each other stay in line and make space so everyone can be seen.

Today we had a fun session to help us relax and keep our energy for the show. I was reviewing what they remembered from the Earth’s structure so we were making play dough models of Earth and most told me there were four layers. A few remembered some names, a few were clever and looked up at our labelled diagrams to find the other names. Many could describe the layers- hot, with rocks, thick, melted rock etc and all knew that land and water were the top layer. They also could tell me that there was much more sea than land. They worked with concentration and used their motor skills to roll, knead, flatten, wrap and shape.

Great week again, Grade 1C!
