Dear Roblox families,
We’ve had such a joyful and highly engaging week of learning together.
In Literacy this week, students continued their journey into the long A sound, exploring the spelling patterns ay, a e and ai, just like on their spelling lists. We had a Bingo activity and as you can see on the photos, 2 pairs won ! Well done to them.
We strengthened our understanding of vowels and consonants and used these skills during reading and writing. Students also reviewed the difference between fiction and nonfiction by noticing the special features authors use to communicate meaning.
In writing, we focused on growing our skills as communicators by fixing and stretching sentences. The students practised fluffing up their writing to make it more descriptive and interesting, showing real voice and creativity.
This week in Maths, our inquiry focused on measuring length, with some learners also revisiting number bonds and number combinations. Students enjoyed investigating the size of objects around our learning space and selecting the most appropriate tools for measuring: hand spans, footsteps, pencil lengths, and even arm length. This hands-on exploration supported their understanding of non-standard units of measurement and encouraged them to think critically about how we compare size.
Our Unit of Inquiry has been full of wonder as students researched different biomes and explored how environments influence the design and structure of homes. They used their curiosity and thinking skills to ask questions, gather information and make connections.
All of our research is preparing us for our next step as designers, where students will create their own home for a chosen biome. We cannot wait to see their creativity and problem solving in action.
Thank you to everyone for returning the permission slips for our upcoming trip to the Sohar Sports Complex. We are very excited to take our learning beyond the classroom and engage in real world experiences, which is an important part of PYP inquiry.
