Week 12 in Grade 6

LINK to Star Wars intro video

What a crazily busy week as the PYPX (Exhibition) is finally launched! The children have been busy answering questions, building word clouds, analysing possibilities, studying SDGs (Sustainability Development Goals), understanding the ATLs (Approaches to Learning) that might be needed on this learning journey and many other things too in their quest to arrive at a PYPX inquiry idea.

As they arrived at a final few ideas and used the ‘Pondering Passions’ machine to evaluate and quantify their ideas. They also spent time consulting peers and then constructing speeches to show their passion for the inquiry, that the inquiry has longevity (enough areas to explore over 10 weeks) and that it connects to our community.

After their inquiry speech had been listened to and approved by our community, the students then moved on to the ceremonial stage (connected to our Star Wars theme), where they selected their Jedi charm and then went past the light sabres and into their exciting inquiry in a galaxy far far away…

Please see your child’s Seesaw posts for video footage and how they have documented their week to arrive at their idea. Please see a few photos below too to see some of our provocations and your children carrying them out.

Next Week (3 day week)

PYPX

  • Setting up their inquiry on a Padlet
  • Formulating initial questions based on Form and Function
  • Starting to research and take notes
  • Beginning the citation process
  • Analysing connections in the mentor database

If you are free, we would love you to attend our PYPX Open House 1 on Tuesday 25th November, between 8am and 9am. This will give you a chance to circulate and see some of the student’s initial ideas and first steps.

Have a great weekend,

The Grade 6 Team
