Dear Roblox parents and families,
What a busy and exciting week it has been in the Roblox classroom! Students have jumped straight into our new Unit of Inquiry: Where We Are in Place and Time and have been full of curiosity and thoughtful questions.
We started exploring different types of homes around the world and the biomes where these homes are found. We have touched a little on each biome, students began to understand how the environment influences the way people build their homes and the materials they use. This connected beautifully to our key concepts:

Form (What is it like?) as we examined what homes and biomes look like.

Function (How does it work? )as we thought about how homes meet people’s needs and wants.

Connection (How is it linked to other things?) as we explored how climate and geography affect design and structure.
Next week, after our discussions and initial exploration, students will be grouped into small collaborative teams to begin researching specific biomes in more depth. They will learn to ask questions, record their findings, and identify how homes in those biomes are adapted to their surroundings. Once their research is complete, they will take their learning a step further by designing a home for their chosen biome. I can’t wait to see what creative ideas they come up with!
In Maths, we had a very hands-on week exploring shapes and number work. Students had a great time building 3D shapes, identifying their features, and even cutting out shapes to see how they fit together. Some students worked on two-digit addition and subtraction, while others practiced wheel addition and subtraction, where a number sits in the middle of a wheel and they add or subtract different values from it, a fun and visual way to strengthen number sense.
We also continued building our understanding of place value through games and problem solving. Students practiced identifying tens and ones, building and breaking apart numbers, and creating and solving their own number stories. By now, students should be able to fluently recall number bonds to 20 (for example, 13 + 7, 2 + 18), and we are beginning to work on number bonds to 100 (60 + 40, 80 + 20). These are great to practice at home or even on the way to school!
In Literacy, students have been writing about what needs and wants are and we came up with a whole class definition. We looked at what we believe our homes need to have and what they would like to have in a home or their house. We have been focusing on writing complete sentences using capital letters and full stops, and working on spelling through phonics and letter patterns. Students have been practicing their glued words and Our reading strategy this week was checking for understanding when reading fiction texts, asking questions like Who are the characters? Where is the setting? What happened? What is the problem?
These strategies help students strengthen their comprehension and confidence as readers

Book Fair: Sunday 23rd November: Roblox students will go see the Book Fair when we come back from our field trip.
It has been a wonderful week of teamwork, curiosity, and creativity. I am so proud of how engaged the students are in their new unit and how they are beginning to make real-world connections through their research.
